'Petfinders' to possibly film at Butte Humane

A local Chico native, Dina Zaphiris Garbis, is about to cohost Animal Planet's new show Petfinders.

After visiting the humane society on Friday, according to the Enterprise Record, the show plans to film our shelter as a location for an episode.

Comcast on Demand: Dog info

I recently discovered their is a large media collection of tips and information about dogs and cats, along with clips of stars and their pets, available on Comcast on demand.

After analyzing the information for several hours, I've concluded it could be useful to the novice pet owner, however most is common information or meant for entertainment purposes.

I give the source a C+. It's worth checking out since most clips are 4-7 mins and they can be watched whenever.

Stigma exposed

I went through the phone book and searched online for as many email addresses to local people and businesses that I could, in order to send out a site announcement. Nobody was added to any sort of mailing list, nor came from spam programs. One man replied "Why would anyone risk having their pets around a pit bull breeder?" To which I replied: Any dog can bite. It's about how you raise them. I saw a statistic a few days ago that said a child is 20x more likely to be killed by their own parent than bit by a dog. All my dogs come with training because I don't like the stigma that pits receive either. And why people should trust their animals with a pit breeder: I have experience dealing with breeds that other trainers do not or wish not to handle, or are simply incapable of handling. Please help educate those who have a misunderstanding of dogs.

Litter granted Purple Ribbons!!!
I emailed the UKC Research Department this morning about obtaining purple ribbon status for Kane and Zeena's litter due to their biological relation.  Kane is absent of PR status but Zeena is purple ribbon bred.

Under UKC rules and conditions, this litter will be certified purple ribbon bred!

While this dramatically increases their value, price will not change.

Dog Scouts website update
I just got off the phone with the Dog Scouts director.

The dogscouts.org website is receiving a major overhaul and is expected to be completed by mid January.  Intermittenly it may or may not be available.

We apologize for the inconvenience to local prospects and hope that it won't effect your decision to attend an orientation meeting throughout January.

Dog Scouts website error

I went to dogscouts.org today and noticed their web certificate was suspended.  I am in contact with the Dog Scouts program director Chris Puls and they are resolving the issue of access to their website.

I apologize to the many Dog Scout prospects here in the local area.  The dogscouts.org website should be up soon.

Thank you for your consideration and patience.  In the meantime, check out a website from one of the troops on the east coast http://www.dogscouttroop107.com/

DISTEMPER VIRUS OUTBREAK ALERT
In Saturday's Chico ER, there was a front page article about 84 dogs euthanized (mercy killed) due to exposure to distemper.  This was a preventative measure to prevent further infection in Butte County.

CDV has an incubation period of 10 days.  It is airborne spread like kennel cough (Bortadella). Whenever any dog is sick at our local shelter, they are quarantined for 10 days while tests are performed to prevent such outbreaks.

Let this be a reminder to have your animals vaccinated and never agree to home a dog without proof of proper vaccinations.

IF YOU'RE DOWN AT THE SHELTER, ALWAYS WASH HANDS AFTER HANDLING EACH ANIMAL YOU COME INTO CONTACT WITH.  CHANGE CLOTHES AND SHOWER BEFORE HANDLING YOUR OWN ANIMALS TO AVOID BRINGING ANYTHING HOME WITH YOU.

Puppy update
The puppies are now 4 weeks old and have begun weaning off momma's milk.  Their weights and health is exceptional as they continue to grow.

I'm still attempting to take individual photos, however I'm definately no photographer as I have trouble with the lighting.

The litter applications for UKC and ADBA papers will be submitted this week.  I hope to have them to take home with the puppies, however it is likely they will be mailed to buyers within two weeks after purchase.

Stay tuned for more info (and hopefully pictures)
